@Vincezo I fully understand your concerns. I know Librem and I’m in touch with the guys. I really hope we can have /e/ run on their hardware platerform, and we even ordered their dev kit in last May (can’t wait to receive it).

Why I want to answer here is:

1- at the moment we’re focusing mostly on degoogling. And it’s really a challenge. Even iOS users who say “Apple is taking care of my privacy”, I can answer that first of all there are no guarantees at all on this statements (and worse there are proofs they do not), and second, iOS default search engine is Google! Google is, in my eyes, a real concern because they are taking over all layers in mobile plateforms: from end user apps down to the OS. Now I can say that besides a few remaining issues (DNS, and a dialer that seems to leak some data to Google, and in some way the notification infrastructure through microG), we are totally free from Google.

2- in the long run my plan is not have people replace the Android they have on their X, Y, Z device by /e/. This way of doing things is for power users and devlopers who want to test and develop for /e/. We will need at least partnerships with hardware vendors, and in the end we’d like to have our own hardware withouth the proprietary blobs. So that people can purchase an ethical mobile (hardware + OS + web services)

The idea of my project is not to bring a “perfect” world today or tomorrow. It’s to provide an a true alternative and bring people (at least the one who want so) to a better world, progressively.

We’re a long term project, to protect privacy, freedom and democracy.
